The Bachelorette

The Bachelorette, as the name would have us believe, is a spin-off of ‘The Bachelor’ aired on ABC, a reality show in the dating genre, where a woman chooses her Mr. Right from a gathering of eligible bachelors/

In what was probably the most watched episode of a television program at that time, the show debuted in 2003 when Trista Rehn chose a husband from 25 eligible bachelors. Watched by a record 30 million viewers in its debut season in 2003, it left ‘That 70s Show’ far behind in ratings. Trista was a runner-up on The Bachelor’s first season. She chose Ryan Sutter who proposed to her and the two have been happily married and have a family together.

The 2004 season of The Bachelorette also featured the runner-up of the previous season’s The Bachelor, Meredith Phillips.

The show went off air in 2005 and only returned on ABC after a gap of three years, in 2008.

Not all Bachelorettes who chose their Mr. Right on the show finished happily ever after. In 2005 Jennifer Schefft chose her Mr. Right but did not accept his proposal. She finally found the man of her heart outside the reality show studio when she married Joe Waterman, a Chicago Public Relations Executive. The couple is married and expects their first child later this year.

The 2008 season again featured a campaigner from season eleven of The Bachelor, DeAnna Pappas, who chose Jesse Csincsak over Jason Mesnick who was the hot favourite, and they announced their wedding date in May 2009. But just before, the couple ended their relationship. All is not over yet for Pappas, as she makes a re-entry in season thirteen of The Bachelor, where most surprisingly Jason Mesnick appears as a single father looking for a second chance at romance.

The 2010 season’s Bachelorette is Ali Fedotowsky, a charismatic and beautiful career woman from San Francisco. Looking for a chance to meet her Mr. Right, Ali has realigned life’s priorities. The show has been following Ali’s search for her man, on some of the most romantic locations and dates, as Ali and her bachelors visit Las Vegas, New York, Iceland, Istanbul, Hollywood and Tahiti.

At every step of the way, the men compete with each other for Ali’s time and attention. And if a bachelor should find that he’s not interested in The Bachelorette any more, he can simply refuse her invitation to date.

Along the way, the men will continue to be eliminated and walk away from the show. However, two lucky bachelors will get the visit The Bachelorette’s family and she, in turn, will visit the men’s locations to understand their background, lifestyles and compatibility in starting a relationship.

In a coming together of like minded thinkers, the show aims at creating opportunities for eligible bachelors and bachelorettes get a dash of romance and love on the show.

It is possible that The Bachelorette may find true love at the end of a sensuous journey. But the big question will remain – Will he? Won’t he?
