Pop Culture And Reality Television

Pop culture and reality television have interacted to such a degree that reality television has subsumed pop culture in a way. It has displaced the familiar ethos of the fictitious in pop culture and replaced it with the real. It has struck down fictitious artificial pop culture and replaced it with real pop culture that regular ordinary people are inventing themselves. The people are the engine and consumers of pop culture now. It is truly fascinating.

Often, before the advent of reality television, there were references to what could be construed as reality television in pop culture that showed a dystopian future where people were being recorded against their will in constant surveillance.

Other shows have taken on the sub-genre of mockumentary, and they have gotten inspiration from pop culture. Other times, reality television shows spawn movies like What Do You Say To A Naked Lady? And Jackass were based on the shows Candid Camera and Jackass, respectively. The mumblecore film sub-genre was also inspired by reality television, along with the mockumentary film sub-genre. These genres rely on improvisation, non-professional actors, shaky camerawork, and various kinds of situations.

Furthermore, there are a whole host of movies that have been inspired by the advent of reality television, notably The Truman Show and ED TV.
