Environmental Activists Have Shows Too

With an ever-increasing focus on green technology and environment concerns, people are becoming much more aware of social environmental issues. Because of this, people can now turn on their TV and discover more and more about the earth and how to care for it. Whether you value animal conservation, green technology, or recycling, there is reality programming on TV today which will suit your tastes.

Whale Wars - Whale Wars follows activist Paul Watson, captain of the Steve Irwin and founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Paul Watson has a long history of animal activism. This show focuses around the efforts of Paul Watson and his crew to sabotage the Japanese whalers that operate in the Southern Ocean Sanctuary in Antarctic waters. While the whalers say they are legally allowed to whale in this area for research purposes, Paul Watson alleges that they do so for the meat, which is sold in fish markets. The Sea Shepherd Fleet, which includes the Steve Irwin and the Bob Barker, uses many tactics, such as throwing butyric acid on the whalers’ decks, to prevent whaling activities. Part of the show revolves around the controversy Paul Watson’s actions create. The Japanese refer to the Sea Shepherd activists as “terrorists.”

Living With Ed - This show follows Ed Bagley Jr., an actor known for his many TV appearances and film roles. His most well known role was that of Dr. Victor Ehrlich on St. Elsewhere. He has long used his celebrity to champion environmental causes. During the program, you will see him trying to live an environmentally-conscious life. His main goal is to reduce his carbon footprint. Featured on the show are his wife’s struggles to deal with her husband’s eco-obsession and his competition with his friend Bill Nye, known from the kid’s show “Bill Nye the Science Guy.”
