Extreme Makeover: Car Edition
Who doesn’t like taking a plain ol’ automobile and turning it into a stylish ride? If you don’t have the means to do this to your own vehicle, you can watch TV shows that revolve around this very topic. You may even be able to apply to be on such a show. In the meantime though, get your fix by turning on your television and tuning in to the following programs:
Pimp My Ride - This MTV show revolves around car owners in Southern California who sent in video tapes depicting the decrepit state of their vehicles. Cars often have mirrors falling off, rusty bodies, missing parts, and all sorts of maladies. The owners get surprised when rapper Xzibit shows up to “pimp” their cars. He then takes said vehicle to West Coast Customs, where the employees remodel the car into something that’s more than presentable. New paint jobs, cool electronics, awesome accessories, and a whole host of changes are done. Finally, the car is presented in its new state to the owner, who is usually quite jubilant.
Trick My Truck - Trick My Truck, on CMT, follows the same format as Pimp My Ride. The Chrome Shop Mafia fixes up trucks (often semis) which they have taken from the owners. At the end of the show, the newly renovated vehicle is revealed to the surprised owner.
Overhaulin’ - Chip Foose, celebrity car designer, and his crew steal vehicles from deserving owners. They also play a whole host of tricks on the unsuspecting owners. Meanwhile, the cars are revamped with the help of an insider (a person related to the car owner). Chip Foose uses the insider’s information to create a custom design for each vehicle. Lastly, the tomfoolery is admitted and the car is given back to the often tearful owner.
You may not always have the money to fix up your dream automobile. However, there is the off-chance that you could be selected for a car makeover. Until then, stay tuned.
